Free to read short stories and poetry
Welcome to my Undying Words.
Looking for free to read short stories and poetry? You’re in the right place.
Naff title, isn’t it?
I picked it in a rash moment of certainty. I felt sure that anyone who saw it would understand immediately that it was just a tongue-in-cheek, flippant, ironic name for a website about writing. Ironically, it just seems naff. Even more ironically, the contracts I’ve signed up to mean that I’m stuck with it. The name is, at least for now, undying.
The original aim was to use the site as a platform to publicise my fiction and poetry. In the old days, this would have been called vanity publishing. Today, it is still called vanity publishing. This strikes me as odd, as one of the many things I believe myself to be incapable of is vanity. Then again, I thought Undying Words was a good choice. Perhaps I’m just more incapable than I realised.
I’ve put a fair few posts on here, from poetry of various forms (free verse and rhyme and senryu and especially haiku) to fiction of the short, flash and not so flash variants. There are also links to a few books I’ve self-published. I’ve moved most of these things across from another site I had on WordPress.com. In the process of moving them over, I managed to lose most of the images associated with the posts. That was when I accidentally overwrote the backup files. As a consequence, only the most recent posts have an associated image.
There seems to be a pattern emerging here…

Links That I Like
Trying to build a presence on the internet is a frustrating exercise. The place I go to find out what I’m doing wrong is Rank Math. Their blog is very useful. There are other similarly useful blogs, of course – Moz and Ahrefs being amongst the most comprehensive.
… and here are some quotes from famous people who are often slightly dead…
- "Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold."
- "There is room in the smallest cottage for a happy loving pair."
